Wolf Timbers in Bolivar, Ohio, is
Ohio's unique wolf educational facility that has pure wolves as the sole captive
animal. Wolf Timbers was founded as a non-profit organization in August
1996. Our mission is to enlighten people on the true nature of wolves so
that a greater understanding of the wolf and the role it plays in the ecosystem
is appreciated. Currently there are three North American Gray wolves at
Wolf Timbers. All three wolves were born in captivity at Wolf Park near
Battle Ground Indiana. They were brought to Wolf Timbers when they were
four months old and reside in a natural setting.
The wolf has long been
misunderstood and characterized as "the beast of waste and desolation."
Such attitudes have led to the wolves decline through various methods resulting
in placement on the Endangered Species List. Through educational programs
the wolf is now making a comeback in the United States. Wolf Timbers hopes
that through continued education, understanding of the wolf will result in
furthering this comeback.
