Many know of the famous Irish Brigade of the Union army during the Civil War, but the Sons of Erin also fought under the flag of the Confederacy. It is estimated that as many as 50,000 Irish born men served in the Confederate army. The items in this section honor those Irishmen who served in butternut and grey.
Patrick Cleburne No Irish-born soldier rose higher in the ranks of the army of the Confederacy during the American Civil War than did Major General Patrick Ronayne Cleburne. He gave his life to that cause at Franklin
6th Louisiana This predominantly Irish regiment served in the Eastern Theater starting with the famous “Valley Campaign” of Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
10th Tennessee These "Sons of Erin" carried their green flag through most of the major battles fought in Tennesse, Mississippi, and Georgia.
