Afrobeat is a musical genre first made popular in Africa during the 1970's. It is an energetic, explosive, big band style of music that's a combination of Yoruba music, Highlife, jazz, funk, and African percussion. The music became popular in Nigeria, where Fela Kuti was experimenting with blending various forms of music and vocal styles. In his own club, called Afro-Shrine, Kuti and his band performed the new musical style. The genre spread across the African continent and eventually the world, inspiring jazz musicians such as Roy Ayers and Branford Marsalis, and it has exploded onto dance floors where the rhythms and beats feel as fresh today as they did 30 years ago. DJs in the hottest clubs have discovered the energy of this amazing music and are mixing it into their house music sets, where a whole new generation is discovering this music's ability to blow up the dance floor. This funky Afrobeat design is an eye catcher with the graphic red, black, and green face emerging from the continent of Africa. The face resembles that of Fela Kuti and his son, Femi, who continues his father's musical path. A hip, unique look on your choice of t-shirt colors and styles, merchandise and gifts.
