The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is the oldest lining Charles Bridge. Austrian sculptor Matthias Rauchmüller made the original clay design, based upon a wood model by Jan Brokoff. Volfgang Jeroným Heroldt then cast it in bronze in Nuremberg. The base portrays scenes from the life of the saint, including the confession of Queen Johanna and the saint's death. Today, visitors to Prague touch the statue's base to bring good luck and ensure a return visit to the city of Prague.
