O'Doherty's Rebellion

By 1608 Sir Cahir O'Doherty was the only remaining Gaelic chieftain still ruling in Ireland. His attempts to peacefully co-exist with the English government ultimately failed and he rebelled burning the city of Derry and killing the governor. Several months later he was hunted down and killed. His head was put on a pike in Dublin. This woodcut illustration appeared in newspapers in London.
