Red Mars stands for the pristine, untouched world from the pre-human era; Green Mars represents the terraforming project which introduced animals and vegetation; Blue Mars symbolizes the fully transformed world, with oceans, lakes and rivers.
This tryptich of colors led to the conception, a few years later, of the three-colored Martian flag by the Mars Society.
Martian Tricolore is a series of products inspired by this banner, which first flew in space on board of the shuttle Colombia, just before the end of the millennium.
This pattern of juxtaposed blocks explores the relations between these complementary colors, at times entering the realm of the transitory hues yellow, purple and orange.
