Grey Matter Media > Australia > Devil's Marbles Violet Night
Perhaps Earth's greatest example of spheroidal weathering. Geological formations like Devil's Marbles, in the Red Centre of Australia's famous Northern Territory, are formed when molten volcanic rock cools very quickly which results in cubic crystallisation. Over time cracks open between the cubes and atmospheric processes slowly erode the corners and edges changing cubes into spheres. I shot this at dusk with a small 35mm range-finder camera, hand held on Fujichrome Velvia. The colours are not enhanced.
