GARGOYLES ON T-SHIRTS & GIFTS : T-Shirts to Go

Our special GARGOYLES ON T-SHIRTS & GIFTS collection features grotesques and gargoyles on magnets, buttons, mousepads, and tote bags. We also have gargoyles on clothes, like t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jerseys. Gargoyles are, in fact, drainpipes on cathedrals, churches and other public buildings. The purpose of gargoyles is to drain rain water out and away from the sides of the buidings. The word gargoyle comes from the Latin “gurgulio” which means throat, and the sound of running water. When sculptors gave the gargoyle creature a body, or when the gargoyle served a decorative, but no longer functional purpose, the gargoyle became a grotesque, and these are seen on the sides of buildings.
