This mask face is from the Chupicuaro period. Mario Castillo painted these types of folk-like mask faces in the early 1980’s. He wanted to deal with a subject that would be readily accepted by all people regardless from which country they are from. He felt that the human face would be the perfect art subject for a globalized art form. Castillo’s interest in multiculturalism guided him to create the first multicultural mural of the new Public Art Mural Movement in Chicago, IL in the 1960’s.
