Muralist, Mario Castillo, derives this design from Classic Mimbres pottery. The Mimbres culture is associated with the Mogollon culture around AD 1000-1130. They lived in the Mimbres Valley, near the San Francisco River in New Mexico, Arizona, and also the Rio Grande Valley, and Gila River. The Mimbres people were excellent artists who used Strong Graphic Design in their boldface pottery. This geometric design of a bird has a distinctive bold quality. Mimbres icons are Native American art from the Southwest and considered some of the best Pre-Columbian designs ever produced.
