Our designs are based on period photographs and original examples. Where no sample is available, we use our knowledge of the available designs to approximate the new design. (a note on original shirts: Most WWII era t-shirts are relatively fitted, and feature a wider boat-neck style and more of a padded collar than you find on modern shirts. The fabric is closest to the "organic cotton" shirts found here. The printing was not screen-printed as is the norm today, but was applied in a style called "VELVO" - more like a flocked or velour appearance, or in an ink screening that looks remarkably similar to the CafePress style, especially after a few washings. This process is almost unheard of since the 1980's. Only one maker appears to have copied the "VELVO" style and marking method, and those sweatshirts sell for about $135.00 or more. We are aware of no t-shirts in the original style that can be screen printed. The shirts and items offered here strive to capture the retro look using modern printing methods and clothing designs to keep the cost down.)
