I've put together a wide range of designs for Hallowe'en (US: Halloween) for you you to choose from.
The Gods of the Underworld - This design is based on a photograph I took of an ancient Roman altar stone dedicated to Dis and Proserpine, the Gods of the Underworld. The text reads: 'Diti Patri et Proserpin Sacrum.' It was a cloudy day in the old Roman town of Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium on the Rhine, but my attention was caught by a shaft of sunlight that fell from the sky, illuminating this ancient altar.
Pumpkins - This set is based on a photograph I took of a market stall crammed with these almost supernatural vegetables in France. The lighter images are a straight print from the photograph in sharp detail, whilst the darker looking images have been developed to give them a painterly look.
Jack-O-Lantern - I took this photograph of the first ever pumpkin I carved for Hallowe'en (in my childhood in Scotland we didn't have pumpkins and everyone used turnips). It was shot at night with 800 film to catch the eerie glow of the candle inside, shining not just through the holes, but through the flesh of the pumpkin itself

Why do I keep calling it Hallowe'en? - Hallowe'en comes from All Hallows Eve and means Hallow Even, contracted to Hallowe'en. The apostrophe stands in place of the 'v' that has been left out. For more information about Hallowe'en visit Wica.org.uk.
