STUPID DESIGN - INTELLIGENT DESIGN
If there's one tiny and simple place where a grain of intelligence would have produced a much better design than the one we have, it's in the male genito-urinary system. Ask any man over 60 about getting up in the night, because his prostate is growing to close his urethra. In the worst case it can close completely, and he needs an operation. While we're there, the long looping route of the vasa deferentia (sperm ducts) in front of the pubic bone, over the bladder and down through the pelvis is responsible for a lot of infertility, and an intelligent design would be much shorter.
This is just a quick fix. A ground-up redesign would: - Separate the reproductive from the excretory functions (which would have vast benefits to our psyches - "For Love has pitched his mansion in The house of excrement" - W B Yeats)
- Move the reproductive function to match the redesigned female system
- Bring the testes inside for protection, and vascularise the scrotum to serve as a heat radiator for them, like elephants' ears
- Recess the whole system until it was ready for use.
- but the result would be unrecognisable and grotesque to our eyes.
