I'm tired of the gutless wonders whose real motivation for supporting the war is the visceral thrill they get equating American military power with their own tiny little penises.
And I'm especially tired of the chickenhawks who call into Liberal talk radio, are given a chance to express real, logical, reasoned positions supporting the war - there are many arguable reasons for doing so - and simply utter dumbass shit they picked up from Rush or Hannedy or Savage, none of which are noted for their ability to rub two thoughts together themselves.
When this is met with argument they are stunned, and generally immediately say something obscene, racist, utterly ignorant or all three at once.
They, and the people who started this war of lies, are bullies. They picked a target they thought was weak, a "walkover," a "cakewalk" - targets that they thought nobody would or could defend, free fire-zones for dickwaving and posturing.
And like all bullies, they cannot imagine a universe in which they do not get their way. Nor can they defend their actions or beliefs intelligently, because thinking about what they do would make them have to think about what they ARE.
Case in point: Why did the NRA show up in Columbine for a "2nd Amendment Rally?" Were they there to defend gun ownership? Hell no. You don't need to go to Columbine after that.
Clue: the first targets of the shooters were Jock Culture bullies. They were there to show solidarity with the victims of their own culture; those who feel they have the right to abuse those weaker or more tolerant than they are by virtue of having weight to throw around.
Have YOU seen a rush of volunteers from NRA strongholds, recruiting drives; NRA sponsored combat shooting courses for reservists, or sponsored mailings soliciting body armor and side arms?
No?
Me neither.
Nobody on liberal talk radio is taking terribly liberal positions. Right now, they are simply using up the ammo given them by an absurdist presidency to swing things back to a respectable center. There's no NEED and no reason for ANYONE to haul out their "librul propaganda" to point out how good things should be, when what's needed is to point out how totally hosed things ARE.
Hell, they say nice things about John McCain, and even occasionally complement Bob Dole.
But the biggest point they have to make lately is how quickly support for the war stops at the recruiting officer's door.
And that point is made by the chickenhawks themselves, by their reaction to "If you support this war so much, why ain't you in uniform?"
Ten thousand good answers for that - and they never have one.
Bullies are cowards, and that's why chickenhawks always find shelter behind someone else. In this case, they are standing behind their president... and he's standing behind as many reserve divisions as he can muster.
Do I support this war? No. Not because I'm opposed to war, or think our troops are bad folks, or doing bad things beyond the usual that happens in war.
I just think this is a particularly stupid situation we are in, neither war nor peace nor anything either soldiers or warriors should sully themselves with. It's beneath their dignity, a waste of lives and talent and a billion dollars a day of money better spent.
And before you ask, I do have ideas of how we could have better dealt with terrorists. One extremely good idea would be to not create them in the first place. And certainly one should not train them in how to use our weapons and subvert the tactics of our military.
But we did that with Osama Bin Ladin - and a host of others.
But the real answer is that you get small groups of highly trained men who can, as the SAS brag, "disguise themselves as a pint of Guinness," and you cause terrorists to die. Suddenly, and in ways that seem accidental, non-political, embarrassing or just puzzling.
You do not mention your efforts, it’s never hinted at, much less bragged about, as was the fact that we were listening in on OBL’s sat phone.
What do us people who are accused of being "liberals" every time we suggest sanity and common sense solutions that will actually work have in mind? Just that. Sanity and common sense. A foreign policy that does not focus on dominating the whole world as a stated goal would be a start.
I'm not a "liberal," I'm a libertarian; I've read my Sun Tzu, my Von Clauswitz, my Rommel and my Patton. I've studied the Civil War too - and this administration has managed to duplicate almost every dictum given in any war-fighting manual written by everyone, including the most fundamental: Andy Jackson's "Get thar fustest with the mostest."
Then, a foreign policy that actually works to the economic benefit and security of the American people would be the next step.
Finally, a shift from an offensive military posture to a swift reactive policy in co-operation with other world powers - something that gives us the chance, from time to time to demonstrate to others who might consider screwing with us what a fatally bad idea that would be.
So far, we have managed to convince the world that no matter what an awesome big load we carry between our legs, we cannot find the right hole to drop it in. OBL is still around, Iraq - which had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11, is NOW the hotbed of terror that it never was before, and the rest of the world is losing patience with us.
We worry concerned persons more than North Korea and Iran put together. That is a stupid and dangerous position to be in.
"Walk softly and carry a big stick," that was Teddy's advice, and he knew both ends of that stick.
