Aside from being images designed to motivate the American Homefront, many of the USA's propaganda posters are also beautiful works of art in their own right. This poster is by Sascha Maurer, one of America's premiere skiing advertising artists. Maurer was a German Jew who fled to America and wound up in advertising. His paintings built upon the tradition of abstract design, pioneered by artists like Joeseph Binder, but compromised with shades of realism. Maurer's famous skiing posters are always dynamic in composition, conveying a feeling of sporting excitement... and his propaganda posters... well, those a great as well.
Speaking of two jobs, did you know that Dick Cheney has a second job to make ends meet? Yep, According to Dick Cheney's 2003 tax returns, his Halliburton paycheck last year was $178,437. His vice president's paycheck was $198,600.
Yes, the vice president still gets an annual Halliburton check. When he resigned as CEO to become the hand inside the George W. Bush talking puppet, Cheney arranged his massive $36 million severance package to be paid out over a period of years, so as to pay less taxes. Cheney says that this check comes in regardless of whether the enormous oil-and-defense contractor has a good year or a bad one, and so he has "no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind."
Too bad that's not true. The Congressional Research Service studied Cheney's odd arrangement and concluded that the check might well not come if Halliburton has a really bad year; and that as of several months ago at least, Cheney still held substantial stock in the company. Do you think that's perhaps why Halliburton has gotten so many non-competitive no-bid contracts to "fix" Iraq?
