Characters- Leroy Morte- A restless man, driving across the American South at night in a black 1969 Cutlass. Plagued by hallucinations and memories that seem impossible, Leroy feels himself slowly going insane. He gives various pseudonyms, and rarely uses his real name. Lucretia-Although not specifically named as of chapter 2, the black 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible is known as Lucretia. She has a 455 cubic inch engine. The Twin- A man Leroy sees in his visions, who looks exactly like him. He suspects the man is his twin. Hunahpu and Xbalanque- The Hero Twins of the Popol Vuh. In mayan myth and legend, the twins conquer death. Andrew Ulysses- A hitch-hiker picked up by Leroy Morte in Dead Leaves. Marianne D'Notradam- A gas station attendant in Velvet Bones.
