In Star Trek, The Sovereign Class USS Enterprise NCC 1701-E was built at San Francisco Fleet Yards, the first vessel christened Enterprise to be built there since the Enterprise-A 86 years earlier. This design commemorates that fact and is the kind of thing that perhaps the Starfleet personnel involved in the design and construction of the famous starship may have been awarded by the United Federation of Planets when the Enterprise was launched in 2272 following the destruction of the Enterprise-D. At the time of her launch the 1701-E was the most advanced vessel in Starfleet, and was instrumental in repelling a Borg attack on Earth, ultimately having to travel back in time to Zephram Cochrane's first contact with the Vulcans to prevent the Borg from wiping the event from time itself.
