More Information

"...The Book Of Tia is a very interesting mini album from a musician who knows how to play the violin, can sing as well and who dares to be different and releases music that’s unique." - Jazz Not Jazz. WALTZ FOR ANDREA - Traditional and a little funky, this waltz developed as a dialogue between myself and choreographer, Andrea E. Woods for a film project entitled “Inside.” This film is now part of the permanent collection of the New York Public Library, Jerome Robbins dance division. WALKING WITH MY SOUL - My reminder that the best of me comes from within; we are indeed spirit having a human experience. FIONA’S COUSIN - I wrote this thinking of two sea crossings. The first crossing: the Irish and Scots during the potato famine, bringing their hope and dreams to start over in America and crossing in the squalor of steerage on a great ocean liner, singing and dancing the songs that they brought with them. The second crossing is that of the Middle Passage, Africans who were stuffed in the holds of ships like lumber, chained, with no hope of a better life and still hearing the sounds of the drums they left behind. The interrelatedness of the two journeys echoes in my blood because I am one-sixteenth Scottish. TIMELESS - (music by A.R. McDaniel, lyrics by Tia Hanna) - This is a beautiful melody that my friend Arlene McDaniel played for me several years ago. I hope she likes my lyrics and the derangement of her original music. This song is dedicated to Julie Anne Jones. BRAZIL THE FIRST TIME - I wrote this as an exercise and it developed into my vision of sunlight and dancing and playfulness during Carnival. At least that is what I dream Brazil to be. Coincidentally, the day this was recorded, Brazil beat Germany for the 2002 world cup in soccer.
