This Lamp > A. T. Robertson Is My Homeboy
No doubt you have probably seen the "Jonathan Edward Is My Homeboy" shirts. This idea inspired me to create a similar shirt for A. T. Robertson (1863-1934), still one of the most revered names in New Testament Greek Studies. But this shirt is somewhat different from the Edwards shirt. Since Robertson is so closely associated with Koine Greek, I have attempted to offer the Greek equivalent to "is my homeboy." The result is
estin ho emos oikeios (transliterated here, but in actual Greek on the items below). The word
oikeios is derivative of the Greek word for home/house and means "kinsman" or "member of my house." Thus a very,
very dynamic translation in English might result in "homeboy."
Nevertheless this is a fun shirt that will no doubt cause a few stares and spur conversations with the folks who get the joke and with those to whom you have to explain it!
