Thaneeya McArdle - Fine Art & Illustration : Day of the Dead 2

This is a highly-detailed, vibrantly colored, funky and psychedelic skull inspired by Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I combined the simplified black outline of a skull with my usual funky abstract style to create an artwork that is vivid, boisterous, and jubilant. I like the paradoxical juxtaposition of the classic image of death and mortality - the skull - portrayed amidst colorful abstract forms and intricate designs, which express the fullness and joy of life.
