Hi! Thanks so much for dropping by! The piece featured is titled "J is for Jaguarman"; it was originally done in 1995, in colored pencil, pen, and markers on toned paper. Jaguar-men have a basis in very early Mesoamerican mythology; to the ancient Olmecs, they were supposedly the result of a cross between a Divine Jaguar and a human female. The two square-ish masks in the upper corners are based on Olmec mosaics of were-jaguars, the upper statue is Aztec, and the lower object depicts an Olmec figurine/knife blade.
