It seems inconceivable that almost 60 million people voted for George Bush. They apparently didn't care that he used September 11 as political fodder, raped the environment, and favored billionaires while the middle and lower class struggled.
The simple majority in red states and a minority in blue states believed that John Kerry would take their guns, snowmobiles, and Bibles. Some believed that, although he was a decorated war hero, his protesting the Vietnam war made him less patriotic than a man who supported the war but pulled strings to avoid going to it.
George Bush's first term has been a disaster, but to a simple majority of American voters, facts were irrelevant. After the debates, Fox News declared George Bush the winner.
Jumping from Afghanistan to Iraq was a colossal blunder. George Bush cannot accept diversity and ignores our former allies' points of view. He and his self-righteous clique are bent on remaking the world in their image. A simple majority of voters gave the election to George Bush because of "moral values."
Many of the simple majority felt God had picked George Bush. Some priests and pastors warned of Hell for people who voted for John Kerry.
Being a Christian is not just about gay marriage or abortion. It includes loving your neighbor, helping the poor, and being a good steward. Moral values do not include hating other groups, plundering the environment, tax cuts for the rich, dropping government protections to facilitate corporate greed, or turning Social Security over to brokers.
George Bush said he'll reach out to anyone who shares his views. That's only the simple majority who already voted for him. You can't call yourself a unifier, if you only reach out to people who already bought what you're selling.
Meanwhile, 1200 soldiers will never see their families. They died in a war that will enrich Dick Cheney and corporate principals.
