Silence is Loud : Calendar Events : Transgender Day of Remembrance
November 20 marks the national Transgender Day of Remembrance, memorializing those who have died at the hands of others due to hate. We remember those we have lost and work towards a better understanding and acceptance of transgendered people.
The Day of Remembrance is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.
