Welcome to Hammond Tech Alumni Products
Below this text are Tech High School caps, Hammond Tech cups, Tech Tiger shirts, and other Hammond Technical Vocational High School merchandise for alumni and former staff.
Hammond Technical Vocational School was known as Tech. Its athletes were Tigers, and its colors were brown and gold. Built in 1919, it moved several times and became the Area Career Center in 1983, no longer a high school.
"My time at Tech with my friends was some of the best times of my life. "
"OK, you guys, let's think back to all the times we went to the matinee theaters, when we met our friends there. I can remember the Orpheum by Minas Department Store, the Parthenon on Hohman Avenue, the Paramont on West Hohman, but what was the name of the one near the Paramont? The Rio was in East Hammond and the Calumet was at Calumet and Carrol. Remember the Saturday serials with the Green Hornet and Don Winslow of the Navy. "
"The theater by the Paramont had 5 movies on Saturdays. All that for 10 cents. When they raised it to 12 cents, I had to go looking for more pop bottles to return at 2 cents each. "
"That was the Hohman Theater. Also there was the Pix Theater on Columbia Avene at Conkey Street and the Ace Theater in Hessville. Don*t forget the 41 Drive-In in north Hammond. What fond memories. "
"Yep, you*re right, twelve cents for a Saturday afternoon at the Hohman Theatre near the Paramont on west Hohman Avenue. "
"I remember that after my chores were done, my dad would give me seventeen cents, and then, if it was raining, I would use a nickel for a bus ticket to get downtown. If not raining, I would walk. During the movie, if I still had the nickel, I would watch the weather from the lobby, and if no rain, I would have a candy bar. If rain had begun, and I still had the nickel, I would have to use it for a bus ticket home to Hoffman and Hickory Street. "
"Herman Buerhle was one of the teachers that really made a difference in my life. "
"Virginia Volkman was such a sweet person and so happy. She was one of the few teachers that left a good mark on me. "
"Virginia Volkman was my favorite teacher, too. In addition, I also had Mrs. Brynes, a cool lady, and Mr. Kline. "
"I always cared for Miss Thomas as my teacher. She always was a very understanding person when it came to her students. "
"My favorite teacher and the one I remember the most is Mr. Frazier (business machines). He inspired me to follow the world of computers. "
"When I think of school one of the first things that comes to mind is Mrs. Jones in homeroom. Jonsey was the best. "
"Does anyone remember the fire at Hammond High back sometime around 1970, when their students used Hammond Tech*s building for awhile? Tech students started school around 6: 00 AM, and Hammond High students came in at noon. "
"That year! I froze to death getting to school. The sun wasn*t even out when I left home to get to school. I remember having lunch at about 10:00 AM and not being hungry. Classes were about 25 min long. "
"I think you are talking about was in the winter of 1968. I was a senior and had classes from 6: 00 AM to 9:00 AM. We couldn't hang any posters of sports or any thing else because we shared our school. That was a bad year but we as tigers kept our school spirit. I also think one of the stores in down town Hammond burned the same winter. "
"Marty Kocman was band director. HHS had to share the band room at Tech. Anybody out there remember that time? "
"I remember Arts Drive In and Ms. Morrow, the science teacher. "
"Does anyone remember playing pool and pin ball at the Lamp Post on the corner of Calumet and Thorton across from the Golden Gate Tavern ? "
"Did you go to the Serenade, or Fat Boy, or Pow Wow, or Ted*s Drive In on the way to Wells Street Beach? How about the 41 Drive In Theatre over in North Hammond? "
"So let us return to the days of yore with the Lone Ranger and Tonto and keep on yearning for at least the prices to return. "
