Clark High School
Whiting, Indiana
Welcome to George Rogers Clark
High School Alumni Products.
George Rogers Clark High School was part of the Hammond School City, it had a Whiting mail address, but it was located in Robertsdale.
"The music of the times, cruising 119th street with 6 guys in a car looking to pickup a girl, maybe that is why we never had any luck. Sitting in front of Condes Grocery Store until all hours, solving a lot of important problems. So it seemed at the time. Locking Ms. Lambert in the closet, having a better time playing sports than being successful in school, the smells and odors of Whiting, the artificial brownish red sunsets. Some pretty good times."
"I am one that left town, traveled, and moved back to The Region. Whiting is really much the same, except a lot of stores that were thriving then are gone. They have revived the Hoosier Theater, which makes it nice for the locals. Don*t have to travel far. The malls have hurt downtown just as they have all over the country."
"Arnie*s Hot Dog Stand is still there and serving up the greatest dogs in the area. We go there just about every time we make a trip to Whiting. "
"I just had some chili there last week. Same old Arnie*s except there are some new things on the menu. "
"There were a number of memorable teachers in my high school years. One of them wasn*t there very long, but I adored and appreciated her, Rhoda Kittelsen. She was my speech teacher and drama director. I always tried out for every play but I was not a future Angela Lansbury. Still I loved being part of it all as a member of the stage crew. Finally our senior year, or maybe our junior year, she chose a play with a cast of thousands. Many of us who never managed to get a role in a play were finally in front of the curtain. I don't know why Kit chose that play. I like to believe it was because she recognized that those who will never be star actors still longed for a moment of glory."
"I know I was not as good an actor as many of my classmates, but she treated me like I was just as important as anyone else, on the stage or behind it. She was funny, had a terrific sense of humor and was very sharp. She was a role model for me before I ever heard of feminists."
"Arthur Ericson, known as Tobey, was an outstanding teacher, debate coach and mentor to his students. He always challenged his students to think beyond their limits. He was encouraging and creative and a lot of fun. He died too young but is remembered fondly by many of his former students at Clark."
"I remember being in Mr. Sheppard*s class and the Drama Club. I had a wonderful time. "
"I credit Mr. Snider for encouraging a love of music, especially classical, that enriches my life to this day. He introduced us to some fine music from many of the great composers. He always had great faith in our ability to perform well at contests and concerts. "
"A school dance wasn*t one without the Hartford Convention. "
"I*m now just outside of Philly and I would kill for an ARNIE*S HOT DOG!!!!!!!! "
