Welcome!
The Southern California Genealogical Society is a volunteer-supported genealogy society located in Los Angeles County. SCGS's Burbank library holds over 35,000 books, periodicals, maps, manuscripts, data CDs and other genealogical resources. The Society sponsors one of the largest genealogical events in the US, drawing noted speakers from around the country and from our immigrants' homelands. The 40th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree will be held June 26-28, 2009, at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, Burbank, California.
The 1890 Project will be our Society's legacy for generations of researchers to come. This extensive multi-year project will reconstruct the Los Angeles County portion of the 1890 United States census, which was lost to fire and subsequent water damage. It will be an aggregation of many types of records, including birth, death, marriage, cemetery, tax, immigration, church, and an every-name index of the 1890 Los Angeles Times. The searchable database will help researchers locate their ancestors who resided in or visited Los Angeles County during that crucial year.
Your purchases of items from the SCGS Logo Store will help to support the many activities and programs offered by the Southern California Genealogical Society. For information on membership, the Genealogical Jamboree, or the 1890 Project, click the SCGS logo to be taken to our website.
