What is a Piebald?
Piebald refers to the "Pattern" seen on a Dachshund.
It's a Dachshund with areas of full color on a white background.
Usually big round spots on a white background. Similar to a pinto horse. It's a commonly seen pattern in other hounds breeds, such as greyhounds, beagles and basset hounds.
Though this is a beautiful dachshund pattern, the DCA (Dachshund Club of America) has voted to not include this pattern in the breed standard through AKC (American Kennel Club). And in letters sent from the DCA and the AKC to Conformation judges, it clearly states that any piebalds should be dismissed from the show ring.
We feel, as do many others, that this is an injustice to the dachshund breed. For more information, you can view our website at www.SaveThePiebalds.com and sign our Petition!
