My name is Sami, I am a beautiful 14 year old black lab and I wanted to share my story with you. I have osteosarcoma...bone cancer.
I was diagnosed with cancer right before New Year’s eve 2007. What a way to start the new year, huh? I had been limping for a while and my regular vet kept telling us it was just arthritis. My parents weren’t convinced that was all it was. We got a second opinion.
OSTEOSARCOMA. My family was shocked and devastated, no one expected to hear it was cancer! They were told if I didn’t have an amputation done to remove the cancer, my leg would eventually break and I wouldn’t have long to live. I know it was hard for them to think about having one of my legs removed but if they hadn’t decided on the surgery I wouldn’t be here today to tell you my story.
It has been a year since my surgery and I am happy to report I am doing really well. I have adjusted to life on 3 legs. I take life day to day. I am still my happy self, I still have my enormous appetite and I have so much love and energy left in me.
Unfortunately, there are too many of us with cancer. Luckily, there are wonderful folks out there doing what they can to help us cancer heroes, through education, research and awareness. I want to help them and others fight this disease so my momma made me a logo and a shirt that says Bone Cancer Hero.
ALL proceeds from the sale of our items will be donated to various charities and organizations dedicated to helping animals.
Realize cancer just doesn’t affect humans, it has a much longer reach. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. And thank you for all you do to help animals.
XOXO,
