The Military, NASA and Cool Stuff Shop : Space and Science Fiction : Project Constellation: ORION, ARES & ALTAIR
Well here we go. First we had Mercury, Gemini and Apollo and now Ares and ORION join the list of NASA projects. The Project to keep American in space after the space shuttle is retired in 2010 is CONSTELLATION. The manned effort to the ISS, the moon and Mars that will follow on after the Shuttles are retired is ORION. Ares is the project to develop the launch vehicles, and Altair is the project to build the next lunar lander.
Our sources were not certain, but the skinny is the three sides and the three stars represent the three destination of the new program: the ISS and the Moon.!
