Did you know that gay & lesbian folks were very much honored by most all native american people? The Lakotah revered and honored them as very special and spiritual members of their society as did many other native cultures. They were closely woven into the real life fabric of traditional old Lakotah society before the whiteman seperated and all but distroyed this beautiful part of native community & history.
I know many native gays & lesbians who value not only their tribal connections but the spiritual connection of being the Lakota tribe’s third gender, who were called 'winktes,Two-Spirit People or Heyoka'! These designs are done to honor them and to keep alive the respect and tradition of all native tribes who accept 'two spirit' people; but especially the LAKOTAH NATION!
