Micah 6:8 reminds us of the essence of God's intentions for us: that we love God and others through acts of justice, kindness, mercy and humility. Our stationery, shirts and other gifts based on this passage are meant to encourage the mainstream Christian who is disturbed by the Religious Right.
>About Plucked Strings and the Liberal Christian
Liberal Christianity begins with trust, not fear, and that makes all the difference. And so we ask questions, like how come, why not and what if? We experiment with our faith, borrowing from other traditions. We push limits, open borders, challenge authority, laugh, cry and play, and sometimes are a bit overbearing. Maybe we’re the Christ child in a big family. But like our brothers and sisters, we hunger to know God, too.
Plucked Strings offers inspired items for mainstream moderate to liberal Christians who are disturbed by the hateful agenda of the Christian Right and who find it difficult to identify either with the Christian Right or the secular left.
Unlike the fundamentalist, the mainstream Christian tends to be accepting of other religions as alternate paths to the Divine. He generally views God as essentially benevolent rather than punitive. She emphasizes the value of faith in this life rather than focusing on what lies beyond death, and she is likely to express her faith through peace and justice ministries. He probably views scripture as Spirit-inspired rather than literal truth. Unlike the secular left, however, the mainstream Christian tends to view faith as essential, without which life is reduced to existentialism. Her faith lends credence to experience beyond the intellectual and material realms, allowing for mystery and providing comfort in the face of human limitations, including death. Yet for the most part, the voice of the mainstream Christian has been muted, so much so that fundamentalism has become equated with the whole of Christianity in the minds of many. It is time for the left-of-center Christian to reclaim his voice. We hope Plucked Strings' clothes, art, stationery and other gifts will inspire and encourage her, but the real work lies in the courageous efforts of mainstream Christians to be Christ's voice for love and unity in a hurting and broken world. .
