Remember the old days with historical Pawnee Rock photographs on apparel, prints and cards, mugs and ceramics, and home decor.
Pawnee Rock -- a tall red-sandstone bluff halfway between Missouri and New Mexico -- was the most feared spot on the Santa Fe Trail. Indians preyed on wagon trains, and there are legends that frightened travelers buried their gold and silver nearby. A famous scout, Kit Carson, is said to have shot his mule here, thinking it was a Pawnee. The town, formed in 1872 when the Santa Fe Railroad came through, now has a farm economy.
