From the Contributor
This is a study of the fall of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of England in 1066 from the point of view of Orthodox ecclesiology.
Synopsis
It is argued that the Norman Conquest was as much an ecclesiastical as a political event, involving the overthrow of the English Orthodox Church, which had been from 1052 in schism from Rome. The chapters are: Introduction: England and the Continent, 1. Saint Edward the Confessor (1043-1066), 2. Martyr-King Harold II and the Norman Conquest (1066-1070), 3. Doomsday (1070-1087), Conclusion: The Hope of Resurrection. There are two appendices: 1. St. David of Wales, the Celtic Churches and Eastern Orthodoxy, and 2. When did the West Fall away from Holy Orthodoxy?
