The Nicaragua Initiative for Community Aid (NICA) is a Canadian-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing nutritional and educational support to pre-school children in some of the poorest neighborhoods of Nicaragua's capital city, Managua. We do this by subsidizing and otherwise supporting pre-existing grassroots organizations called "ollas communales" or "communal pots" founded and operated by women who live in those neighborhoods. These ollas serve a dual role as both basic pre-schools and lunch-time feeding centers for under-nourished children in their respective communities. Proceeds from the various NICA shops provide stable, sustainable funding for these ollas, allowing them to purchase the food and supplies they need to operate. A portion of those proceeds will be set aside for art supplies, allowing the children to contribute their creativity to the design of these products. For your convenience, we have created multiple versions of this shop, allowing you to choose between donations of $2, $5, and $10 per product. This preschool is one of the four currently receiving ongoing funding from NICA.
