Naval Order of the United States

"As a former Navy man myself, I salute the Naval Order for taking on this "labor of love" to honor all those who were a part of that campaign and, most especially, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom." - Former President George H.W. Bush Sixty-three years following the largest naval operation in world history, the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, the only service not recognized by any monument or memorial at Normandy is the United States Navy. Hundreds of ships and thousands of men were involved in transporting allied forces from England to Normandy in the largest armada ever assembled, in constructing and operating artificial harbors and in supplying the forces once they were ashore. Walking the beaches of Normandy today and observing the many plaques and monuments there will give little clue that the U.S. Navy ever was there. The Naval Order is leading the drive to erect a Monument to the U.S. Navy at 'Utah Beach' in Normandy, France commemorating the Navy's participation in the greatest amphibious invasion in history. The goal is to dedicate this Monument on June 6th, D-Day, 2008. Visit the Naval Order's website at www.navalorder.org for additional details, and to contribute to this worthwhile cause.
