The Princess' Emporium : Juneteenth

President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. But it wasn't until June 1865 that freedom came to the slaves in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Enjoy the Juneteenth Series.
