The "On Pi" design is an allusion to a popular trend in the world salsa community to wear shirts that tell other dancers what beat they dance on. If you dance "On 1", for example, your first step is made on the first beat of the music. So the front of your shirt would read, obviously, "On 1". (The same rule applies for "On 2" dancers.)

We also wanted a design that captured our unique relationship with the salsa world.

Since our community dances to its own beat, and since we're an MIT affiliated group, we captured all that we are with one image--one that pays homage to the salsa community and our unique relationhip to it.
