Joliet Prison, also known as the Collins Street Prison and the Joliet Correctional Center, is located along historic Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois. Made famous in the opening scenes of the movie The Blues Brothers when Elwood Blues greets brother Joliet Jake Blues on his release from prison, and more recently seen in the Fox prison documentary Behind The Walls and their hit series Prison Break where it's known as the Fox River Correctional Center, this historic limestone landmark was built in 1858. Prisoners quarried the Joliet limestone on-site to construct walls measuring 25 feet in height and five feet thick at the base. The historic Water Tower in downtown Chicago - one of the few buildings spared by the Great Chicago Fire of 1871- was designed in the same Neo-Gothic style by William W. Boyington using the same limestone. Original prison photographs are featured on these quality CafePress prints and posters. Scroll down for other items.
