Description: The Christian version of the highly interactive adventure game that helps students learn how to succeed in math. It motivates and helps students acquire good work habits and attitudes.
Synopsis:

This 67-page manual provides all the information a teacher needs to set up the game. It includes a teacher's guide and all the masters for the hand-outs. The story is about a group of students who embark on a quest to discover the Golden Calculator. They must avoid such hazards as the Lazy Old Goof-off Snake, Distraction Lake, Bad Influence Quick Sand, Getting Bored Swamp, and the Negative Attitude Shark. The main educational objective of the Quest for the Golden Calculator game is to provide the teacher with a fun way to incorporate motivational material and scriptural application into an existing math curriculum. This game was actually developed in a Christian school math class with middle school students who previously had experienced difficulty in math, shown a lack of motivation, and demonstrated low self-esteem. Coordinating the game with the math curriculum will help students develop Biblical values and good work habits. They will learn how to set goals, maintain a positive mental attitude, persevere through difficulties, and avoid typical problem areas such as: being disorganized, and wasting time. They will learn how to deal with bad influences, distractions, boredom, taking shortcuts, and making excuses. The game can be used with virtually any math curriculum and can be used as a supplement to the curriculum for a quarter year, half year, or year. It works best when used for a half year or whole year. Highly recommended for middle school math.
