Marshead Records : Music : Phorum
Phorum started life just over two years ago when a few regular visitors to the gong appreciation forum, realised they lived close to each other, and shared an interest in spacey electronic music. An open invitation was extended to anybody who wanted to play and we finally met up in March 2003. The first session was wonderful, four people who had never met before said hello, set up their equipment and then played for five hours without taking a break. This was a magical experience and since then we have tried to meet as often as possible, with numbers ranging from seven players down to only two. All the music is improvised and then edited afterward, no overdubs are added.
The core of Phorum is simon Lewis- percussion, synth, guitar; geoff puplett-guitar, synth, laptop; and dave newman- keyboards, percussion, bass; with a host of other musicians including pix, martin, geoff, barrie, cara, and john.
The band is obviously influenced by 70’s electronic music, gong, tangerine dream, and kraut-rock.
