Name Choice Equality is not a new concept; it's just that few people exercise or realize that they have such freedom. A couple will spend months agonizing over the colour of the napkins at their reception, but give no thought to the politics of name change. The result is that nearly every woman gives up her name at marriage and nearly every child is given the surname of their father.

The Lucy Stone League works to change the naming practices at marriage and at birth to a non-sexist tradition where the burden of name changes, if any, are shared by men and women; and the source of naming of children is shared by mothers and fathers
