What's so cool about these guys? They are marsupials. They are warm-blooded, they have hair, and the mothers nurse their young. And they carry their babies in a built-in pouch.
Some 'roos are very tiny, but others are huge and strong. Their ability to stand on their back feet and fight has amazed human beings for ages.
When I was a little girl, I was fascinated with animals like the kangaroo, the koala, and the wallaby (one of the kangaroo's relatives). If I could have had my way, I'd have owned a huge animal reserve with hundreds of wonderful creatures living there, without fear of predators and poachers. These animals from down under would have been welcome there, along with my dogs, cats, rabbits, horses... of course, I also wanted ocelots, leopards, and lions. I'm sure I'd have had to plan carefully to keep their habitats separate, so they'd all be safe. In a perfect world, we could preserve everyone's habitat. Maybe we could even do that with the imperfect world we live in!
Make your life more perfect by learning about and appreciating animals. Start with this speedy marsupial. Get a bumper sticker or a license plate frame that says, "I brake for kangaroos" -- or a t-shirt, a mug, or a cap. Kangaroos grow on you, and that isn't such a bad thing!
