Debut album from Laserlong. Ft Bonus track "Sonic Study"

Laserlong are a UK electronic band comprising Robjn Barker and Shaun Wallace, who originally met whilst studying in Cambridge. Their music ranges from ambient works (such as tracks 'Hotel Angel' and 'We Float') through chilled out electronica ('Warm'), Autechre-style electronica ('Warp', '1989'), and electro-pop ('Dance Dance!', 'Down'). The album Departure is a selection of 19 tracks from their portfolio of some 40 recordings, and is an excellent cross-section of their wide compositional spectrum. Wallace prefers to focus his efforts on the more traditional elements of songwriting: lyrics, vocals, and acoustic guitar. By contrast, Barker prefers a sample-driven electronic atmosphere in which to write his music - combining punchy bass lines with sweeping synth pads and complex drum patterns. Barker applies the same serendipitous approach to his music production as he does his graphical art, piecing together unlikely combinations and then refining the results. He sees the music as a sketchbook where emotions can develop and have free reign over ordinary musical schemes. The result is an addictive album, and one that's musically simple but at the same time acoustically rich.
