The Koasek Traditional Band is part of Vermont and New Hampshire’s Abenaki community. The center of our homeland for thousands of years was located on the meadows of Newbury VT and Haverhill NH along the Connecticut River (Kwenitegok -Long River). From there Koasek territory roughly spanned north to Sherbrooke QC , South to Fort #4 in Charlestown , NH and Springfield,VT, East to just beyond the White Mountains of NH and West to the Jay Peak area. The logo of the Koasek Traditional Band of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation is made up of three white pine trees (Koas) which represent the Koasek, "People of the White Pines". The three mountains symbolize the area that makes up the Koasek territory (VT, NH and QC) as well as the White Mountains and Green Mountains which play an important role in our culture. The three rivers all touching shows our unity within our territory and represents the Connecticut River which splits the Koasek territory in half and plays and important role in our culture and lives. The Sun rising behind the mountains symbolize the Dawn Land and all of the Wabanaki Peoples.
