As a graduate student the author participated in an Inquiry Based Learning course in Topology, and has been intrigued by Inquiry Based Learning ever since. Inquiry Based Learning is also known as the "Moore Method", named after the eminent Texas mathematician R.L. Moore (1882-1974). Paul Halmos has summarized the basic idea of Inquiry Based Learning succinctly as follows: ''The best way to learn is to do; the worst way to teach is to talk.'' Knaust has taught undergraduate and graduate Inquiry Based Learning courses in Foundations of Mathematics and Mathematical Analysis for several years.
