My name is Ken Morsette and I am a Native American artist. I am an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy Montana. My works primarily consist of Native American and wildlife themes. I am a relatively new artist, but have been using acrylic paints for the last sixteen years.
I have been raised on reservations throughout Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. I traveled with my family while growing up from reservation to reservation throughout the northwest on the average of every two years. My father was a criminal investigator for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for twenty-five years.
I feel the exposure to different tribes when I was younger has broadened my mind and is reflected in my art. There is a lot of Native American art on the market but I feel my artwork has its own unique qualities.
I have had works shown and sold in Holland and Germany. I currently have pieces on display in a gallery in Holland. I had one of my current paintings displayed on the 2003 pow-wow poster for MSU Bozeman which was voted on by a juried panel, the poster wasdistributed nationwide. In March 2003 I took part in C.M. Russell art week and auction in Great Falls and had several paintings on display in the Charlie Russell Manor of Great Falls. Three of the pieces are on display in the Manor right now. I recently been featured in newspapers across the state of Montana for my accomplishments as an artist. I have also worked with MSU Native Waters and the National Science Museum of Minnesota on an educational exhibit that traveled the United States for 2 years in 2003-2005. The exhibit is on display at the Science Museum in St. Paul, MN and is readily able to be checked from the museum and taken to schools nationwide. I helped design and painted the artwork on all of the panels for the exhibit. I also had pieces selected by a juried panel for the MSU College art show of Fall 2002. I was also an illustrator for the United States Army for five and a half years till 1996. I have also had many numerous individual sales of my work throughout the year.
I try to capture my inner feelings as an Indigenous American through the creations of my art. My heart goes into every piece and comes out at my fingertips, a gift from the Creator. I hope you can get the enjoyment I feel when viewing my different works.
