Our focus on Louisiana politics was, for a while, riveted by the shameful dishonesty of Congressman Rodney Alexander, who pretended to be a Democrat for a while, then switched to the Republicans just before the filing deadline, in order to deprive the voters in his district of their right to choose their representative by open election. In our opinion, Rodney Alexander is the worst kind of snake in the grass politician there is.
More lately, of course, the impact of Hurricane Katrina has loomed large, exposing issues of poverty, racism, and environmental destruction that had been ignored too long.
Then there's the corruption of Congressman Jefferson, and new allegations of bribes accepted by Mary Landrieu.
The Democratic Party of Louisiana needs to clean house of corrupt, right wing influence. The rank and file Democrats of Louisiana, however, can still come here and find the progressive messages that they seek to promote on their own.
