Antinous was a beautiful Greek youth who snared the eye (and became the lover) of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The duo embarked on a whirlwind tour of the Empire in 128 AD, only to have it end in tragedy two years later, when Antinous drowned in the Nile. In his grief, the Emperor made Antinous into a god - the last god of the Roman pantheon before the rise of Christianity.
