The Homer Fund Shop

Sir Happy Homer, the Tongue, Homey..., this was our beloved greyhound boy who was tragically taken from us after only eight months in his "forever home". At only 4 ½ years old, an immune mediated disease took our "gentle giant" from us way too soon.
Homer was a big goof ball who stood 32 inches at the shoulder and weighed in at a mere 94 lbs. Clearly a lap dog, or so he thought. When he greeted his family and friends he would do so face to face, standing nearly six feet tall on his hind legs, a paw on each shoulder. The trick was not getting knocked over in the process. Homey was a beautiful red brindle with a loving, gentle and affectionate personality, so gentle and loving that he was afraid of our 12 lb. cat. Then there was his tongue, always hanging out of his mouth and legendary among the PGC, Inc. crew. It could almost touch the floor it was so long!!
The fact is, greyhounds are subject to a disproportionately high occurrence of immune system diseases. Often they are the result of bacterial or protozoal disease caused by tick or flea infested living conditions at the track. Sometimes they are viral. And still other times they are idiopathic in nature (of no known cause).
The Homer Fund was started in Homer's honor. Its mission is two-fold; (1) to promote the awareness, early detection and prevention of immune system diseases in Greyhounds; and, (2) to provide assistance to greyhounds who may be afflicted with such diseases. If we can help even one greyt friend our goal will be met. However, to do so is expensive. This store was set up, with the assistance of Philadelphia Greyhound Connection (www.PhillyGreyhoundConnection.org ), Inc. to raise money for the Homer Fund. Proceeds from every purchase go toward helping greyhounds in need.
Homey, we miss you so much!!! Please know we are going to help other Greyhounds in your name. See you at the bridge big guy.
