Description: Prehistoric Hang Gliding - 21 Years of Hang Gliding Cartoons Comic Book
Synopsis:
From the master in hang gliding cartoons, Harry Martin has finally done it! This comic book is the world's largest collection of 72 full page cartoons published in Hang Gliding Magazine from 1980 through 2001. All of the cartoons have been scanned from the original black and white art from Harry's personal collection. Comic book also includes the entire collection of Hawker & Vario as well as one illustration never seen in Hang Gliding Magazine. This collection also makes for a wonderful coloring book. The back cover shows selected panels from some of my favorite cartoons, colorized to show some of the humor you will find inside. As I look back now at my cartoon work over the years, I've come to realize that they are like a diary. They reflect the technology, trials, and tribulations I've experience since learning to fly. In my cartoons you will see changing technology, politics, issues, and situations that do not exist today. Newer pilots will not recognize and may not understand the humor involved in each cartoon. Some cartoons are based on people who no longer fly or who did not survive the sport. From the first cartoon to the last, you may also see my evolving style. I was determined to cartoon using extremely fine lines rendered with crow quill pens and ink in the wee hours of the night. I would labor for days inking in the details. Later, after starting a family and getting a life, I learned to improve line quality and draw more efficiently. Some of the stories are just plain silly, but I had a lot of fun drawing them and contributing to the magazine. Featured Cartoon Titles include:* Fins parts I, II, & III* Ultralight Danger * Old Timers Tales * Air Scare * Air Hog Day * Night Before Christmas * Bugged Out * Sky Masters - all five parts * Complete Hawker & Vario PLUS One never before seen illustration"Hang glider pilots often like to think of themselves as divine spirits flying through the skies on their Dacron wings. A pretty picture it is too. But Harry doesn't let them off the hook and reminds them that they are little more than ragged bits of humanity. These full page cartoons tell a story of just how close to falling down flat on our faces we all are." - Davis Straub, editor www.OzReport.com
